FORTUNE died in 1801. Had saved almost $800, a large sum of money at that time. He gave his money to the church and the town people.
People still remember Amos Fortune for what he did. Copies of Amos and Lydia Fortune's gravestones can be seen in the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
