Over the course of the past year the African American Policy Forum has continued its work to advance a gender-inclusive racial justice movement at every level of discourse and action. Through these efforts we have witnessed the emergence of a network of individuals and organizations seeking to advance an inclusive vision of racial justice. We have built a national conversation that highlights challenges facing women and girls of color, pushing back against gender-exclusive approaches to racial justice such as the White House’s My Brother’s Keeper Initiative.
Building on this momentum, AAPF is holding Breaking Silence: An Arts, Action and Healing Summer Camp from July 30-August 3 at Vassar College. The camp will bring together an intergenerational and geographically diverse group of women and girls of color. AAPF has worked with the campers at town halls, the #SayHerName Vigil, and on other campaigns to promote an inclusive racial justice agenda. The participants will be joined by instructors who are experts in the fields of racial justice, gender justice, art and activism and will take part in daily workshops with the teaching artists. The closing presentations will grow out of the projects created in these workshops.

Please invite your friends, colleagues and loved ones to come together in this supportive space to celebrate women and girls of color. We hope you will be able to join us for this inspirational evening!

During the course of the camp, follow our progress on social media under the hashtag #BreakingSilenceSummerCamp!

Visitors Center Renovations

As usual, there's never a dull moment here at The National Jazz Museum in Harlem, and we want make sure that all of our friends and family are kept up to date on the most recent developments.

FROM OUR FRIENDS AT WOODLAWN CEMETERY

Take a ride on the Bronx Trolley and visit the Jazz Greats in the Bronx! Beginning at the time of the Harlem Renaissance, The Woodlawn Cemetery emerged as the chosen burial ground for many entertainers, specifically those associated with the New York Jazz Scene.  For over a century, musicians, writers and singers chose to be buried in a place where they could be at rest among the "jazz family." The Woodlawn Conservancy-led tour will cover jazz history from its early beginnings and feature Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, King Oliver, and many others' final resting places.
