spotlight on AMOS FORTUNE

Part 2


FORTUNE became free in 1740. He started his own business and bought some land. With his profits he bought a ship and became a trader. Fortune also bought a Black indentured servant and married her. Amos and Lydia Fortune moved to New Hampshire where Fortune did well in business. He made enough money to help poor Blacks in town. He also taught young Blacks the leather tanning trade.
