ON THIS DAY: OCTOBER 16, 1859, JOHN BROWN, A WHITE ABOLITIONIST, LED AN UNSUCCESSFUL RAID ON THE FEDERAL ARMORY AT HARPERS FERRY.

THIS WAS AN ATTEMPT TO START A LIBERATION MOVEMENT AMONG ENSLAVED BLACK PEOPLE IN HARPERS FERRY.

BROWN WAS CAPTURED AND TRIED FOR TREASON, MURDER, AND INCITING A SLAVE INSURRECTION.





HE WAS FOUND GUILTY ON ALL COUNTS AND HANGED.
