Today at noon - Newark pays tribute to the late WBGO CEO and tireless advocate of Jazz Cephas Bowles with the installation of a memorial plaque at the Historic Essex County Courthouse's First Floor Rotunda.
Thursday, October 15th, 6-8pm - WBGO hosts a gallery opening for Newark artistMansa K. Mussa, showing his twenty-seven years of documenting the unique world of Cuba.
Saturday, October 17th, 12:30pm -The WBGO Kids Jazz Concert Series comes to Newark Symphony Hall as Oran Etkin and his Timbalooloo Band presentWake Up Clarinet, an introduction to the clarinet, tuba, and classic standards such as "Salt Peanuts" and "Duke's Place," along with familiar children's songs.
Saturday, October 17th, 1-2pm - Felix Hernandez will spin classic soul for a Family Fun Rhythm Review Dance Party from 1-2pm, broadcasting LIVE from Military Park!! This is part of the Newark 350 Family Fun Festival (11am-5pm) which kicks off a year-long celebration of Newark's 350th year of existance. Come for pumpkin carving, face painting and much, much more.
Sunday, October 18th, 1-5pm - Visit the Jewish Museum Of New Jersey for the opening exhibition of Jazz, Jews, and African Americans: Cultural Intersections in Newark and Beyond at 1PM- with jazz violinist Aaron Weinstein & Trio performing sets at 2:00 and 3:30.

Kid Koala: Nufonia Must Fall Listen now
Montreal-based turntablist and illustrator Kid Koala (Eric San) talks with Simon Rentner about the stage adaptation of his graphic book Nufonia Must Fall. Koala and designer K.K. Barrett (Her, Lost In Translation, Being John Malkovich) adapted his 2003 illustrations for the stage featuring puppets and live music by Eric San and the Afiara Quartet. Camera crews shoot and edit the puppets in real time and project the action onscreen, creating a live silent film.

This weekend, the WBGO Kids Jazz Concert Series comes to East Orange, as bassist Mimi Jones takes the stage at Cicely Tyson School of Performing and Fine Arts to present "Next Stop Harlem!", where she'll use music and the audience's help to tell a story of The Great Migration, when African-Americans moved from the rural south to the urban northeast, leading to the Harlem Renaissance.
The concert begins at noon and is free to all attending with a child!
