Ruby Dee (10/27/22-6/14/2014) was best known as an actress, but she was also a poet, playwright, screenwriter, journalist, and activist. She was the recipient of Grammy, Emmy, Obie, Drama Desk, Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Awards as well as the National Medal of Arts and the Kennedy Center Honors.

Horace Silver (9/2/28-6/18/2014) was a jazz pianist and composer. He began his career as a tenor saxophone player, but later switched to piano. His big break came in 1950 when he made his debut recording with the Stan Getz Quartet.
