JAZZ EVENT - KANSAS CITY

Thank you Kansas City!

PEER Into the Future V:

Jazz Transforms

On April 20, we hosted our fifth annual PEER Into the Future luncheon fundraiser in support of general operations at the Museum. This year's theme was Jazz Transforms and the event was truly transformational! Thanks to the help of our 20 table captains, more than 20 AJM volunteers, and nearly 240 guests - we set a new record amount raised this year! With Leadership Gifts in advance of the event totalling $128,345 and luncheon guest donations equal to $112,231, the American Jazz Museum raised $240,576 to support general operations! It's not too late to give! Jammin' at the Gem: Lifetime Achievement Award Concert

Marilyn Maye

Saturday, May 23, 8 pm

Gem Theater, $45 and up

In the years since Marilyn Maye first appeared in the spotlight as a tiny pre-teen vocalist in a series of amateur contests in Topeka, Kansas, she has received an endless stream of kudos. The late Johnny Carson called her “Super Singer.” Ella Fitzgerald dubbed her “The greatest white female singer in the world.” The Houston Chronicle termed her “A National Treasure.” And the prestigious Smithsonian Institution chose her recording of “Too Late Now” (from her RCA Lamp Is Low album) for inclusion in its Best Performers of the Best Compositions of the 20th Century permanent collection, along with such other singing greats as Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland. Buy tickets at Ticketmaster or call 816-474-6262 today!

Jazz Poetry Jams

Jazz Poetry Jams is a must-see event for lovers of creative expression, jazz, and the spoken word. Following a 30-minute jazz set performed by the house band, a featured guest poet performs. The evening concludes with an open-mic competition where poets are evaluated on stage presence, poetic content and delivery.
