TD James Moody Jazz Festival, Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition Sunday, November 15, 3PM | Victoria Theatre, NJPAC
Join us for a wonderful fall afternoon of Jazz. WBGO Members will enjoy premium seating and a post-show reception.
Following an extensive international talent search, NJPAC will host performances by the five finalists in the third annual Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition and Sassy Award, founded in honor of Newark’s “divine” jazz icon. They are Emma Lee Aboukasm, Lulu Fall, Angela Hagenbach, Arianna Neikrug and Nicole Zuraitis. This year’s judges include bassist and Jazz Night in America host Christian McBride, WBGO’s Michael Bourne, jazz singersVanessa Rubin and Cyrille Aimée and artist manager Edward Arrendell. The event is hosted by WBGO's Rhonda Hamilton.

Celebrating Billie Holiday's Centennial With Cassandra Wilson | Listen Now Among the celebrations of Billie Holiday's centennial birthday anniversary is a new album from Cassandra Wilson, Coming Forth By Day. On the album Wilson salutes one of her idols, drastically rearranging the Holiday songbook. Jazz Night In America features Cassandra Wilson's blues, country and folk-tinged delivery as she performs her Billie Holiday tribute, and catches up with some key collaborators of both Wilson and Holiday.

Time travel around the globe as drummer Vince Ector traces the history of jazz from African roots to South America rhythms, New Orleans second line to soulful Blues, bebop to modern day jazz, and beyond!
The concert begins at noon and is free to all attending with a youth. Last concert of the season takes place October 31 with Brianna Thomas. Click for more info on the series.
